A shift…
At some point, planning shifts from exciting ideas to infrastructure.
That’s where we are now.
Health Insurance Complexity
One of the biggest surprises has been understanding how domestic and international coverage interact.
International policies are often affordable and comprehensive while abroad — but many provide only limited coverage after repatriation.
Which means maintaining domestic coverage matters too.
Invisible Administrative Work
This stage involves:
- insurance transitions
- policy research
- organizing documents
- deadlines and enrollment periods
Not exciting tasks.
Important ones.
Packing Up Our Current Life
We continue cleaning out:
- home spaces
- offices
- accumulated belongings
Each small task feels practical and symbolic at the same time.
Planning Further Ahead
We’ve now booked through March 2027 and are beginning to coordinate time with friends in Europe.
Planning long-term travel often means balancing flexibility with advance reservations.
Layering Travel Systems
We’re continuing to build:
- points balances
- hotel status
- travel flexibility
Many of these systems come from ordinary travel connected to work and daily life.
Unglamorous, but essential
This phase of preparation is less visible than the trip itself.
But it’s the structure that makes the experience possible.
